As vice president of communications, Larry Blumenthal oversees HealthNEXT’s communications strategy – and all things digital, keeping the company on the cutting edge of the Web and in the middle of the conversation around cultures of health.
Larry is an experienced digital and communications strategist who has spent the last 20 years helping numerous forward-looking health organizations – Johns Hopkins Hospital, Aetna, Discovery Health, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Philly.com, Einstein Healthcare Network, MossRehab, the Commonwealth Fund, the California HealthCare Foundation and others – find their way on the Web.
Prior to his consulting years, Larry spent nine years heading Web and social media strategy at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, where he built an award-winning Web site and led the foundation’s charge into social media―shaping blogs, Twitter feeds, a Facebook presence, online communities, forums, user comments, crowdsourcing and more.
Larry has played a leading role in developing various health-related Web sites, including DiscoveryHealth.com for the Discovery Channel and InteliHealth.com for Aetna U.S. Healthcare and Johns Hopkins Hospital. He also worked as a newspaper reporter, a business editor at Dow Jones & Co., founding associate editor of the NonProfit Times and editor of Publishing Economics magazine.
He is a frequent speaker who has presented at numerous conferences and workshops on Web and social media strategy. He blogs regularly on the use of social media and has written for the Philanthropy News Digest, the Health Affairs blog, the Communications Network and others.
Blumenthal holds a master’s degree in journalism from Northwestern University and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Chicago.
